Welcome to the World Cultures Gallery

Knowledge of other ways of life is essential to living in peace and harmony.

The World Cultures gallery was open to the public in 1998. This major undertaking was completed with a major Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

The gallery space is split into two sizeable areas approximately 300 square metres in total, this means that we can display around 1000 items at any one time, approximately 8 per cent of the total collection.

The gallery presents the World Cultures collection according to geographical divisions, making it easier for the visitor to link objects to their culture of origin and respective landscapes.

This gallery was closed to the public in 2007. This was because the museum received a significant heritage grant to create new gallery spaces for the collections and to also open up more of the building's original architecture. The museum will be opened to the public at the end of 2011.
